Overview

Casino Hold'em is a poker-style game played against the house. You and the dealer get two hole cards and share a flop, turn and river; you make the best five-card hand. The Ante bet has a house edge of about 2.2% with sensible play.

Casino Hold'em borrows the best-known poker game, Texas Hold'em, and turns it into a table game against the dealer. You do not play other players and you do not bluff. You bet an Ante, receive two private cards, and the dealer deals three community cards (the flop). Then you decide: fold and lose the Ante, or make a Call bet (double the Ante) to see the rest.

The dealer must "qualify" with at least a pair of fours; if the dealer does not qualify, the Ante is paid and the Call is returned. If the dealer qualifies, your hand is compared to theirs and your Ante and Call are paid or lost.

Winzap lists Casino Hold'em among its live casino tiles, and its casino text names Texas Hold'em and Omaha among the poker variants it supports. The live Casino Hold'em tile is the house-banked version described here, not player-versus-player poker.

How to play Casino Hold'em

  1. 1Place your Ante bet in the betting window. You may also place the optional side bet.
  2. 2You and the dealer are each dealt two cards face down; you see yours. Three community cards (the flop) are dealt face up.
  3. 3Look at your two cards and the flop, then choose to Fold (lose the Ante) or Call (add a bet, usually twice the Ante).
  4. 4The dealer then deals the turn and the river, and everyone makes the best five-card hand from their seven cards.
  5. 5If the dealer does not qualify (no pair of fours or better), the Ante pays 1 to 1 and the Call is returned.
  6. 6If the dealer qualifies and you win, the Ante and the Call are paid (the Ante 1 to 1 and the Call 1 to 1). If the dealer wins, you lose both. A tie is a push.

Rules

  • Each player and the dealer are dealt two hole cards; five community cards are shared.
  • You make your best five-card poker hand from your two cards and the community cards.
  • The poker hand rankings apply: royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair, pair, high card.
  • After the flop you may only fold or call; there is no raising beyond the Call.
  • The dealer must qualify with a pair of fours or better; if not, only the Ante bet is paid.
  • Some versions pay a bonus on the Ante for a strong hand (a straight or better). Bonus tables and side bets differ by provider.
  • A general strategy rule: call with a pair or better, or with a strong high card combination, and fold weak hands.

Payouts, commissions and side bets differ between providers and tables. Always read the rules shown at the table or in the game on Winzap before anything else.

How these numbers are worked out

The 2.2% figure is the commonly published house edge on the Ante for the standard Casino Hold'em rules with the best call-or-fold strategy. Exact numbers change with the paytable and the side bets, so treat it as a guide and read the rules of the tile you play.

Tips for playing sensibly

Learn when to fold: calling every hand raises the cost of the game.

A rule of thumb: call with a pair or better; fold weak, unconnected low cards.

Remember you are not playing other players, so there is no bluffing.

Side bets look generous but carry a higher house edge than the Ante.

Set a stake and time limit before you start: the Call bet can be twice your Ante.

Common myths

Myth "I should always call."

Truth Calling every hand increases the house edge. Folding weak hands is part of correct play.

Myth "The dealer can see my cards."

Truth No. The dealer follows fixed rules and has no choices.

Casino Hold'em FAQ

Is this the same as poker with other players?

No. In Casino Hold'em you play only against the dealer, with fixed rules and no bluffing. Poker against other players is a different game.

What should I do with a weak hand?

Fold. Folding costs you the Ante but saves the larger Call bet that would otherwise lose more often.

What happens if the dealer does not qualify?

The Ante pays 1 to 1 and the Call is returned to you.
