Overview

Mines is an instant game played on a grid of hidden tiles. You choose how many mines are hidden, then reveal tiles one by one. Each safe tile increases the multiplier and you can cash out at any time; hitting a mine loses the bet.

Mines is a quick instant game inspired by Minesweeper. A grid, often 5 by 5 (25 tiles), hides gems and a number of mines that you choose. You place a bet and start revealing tiles. Each safe tile raises the multiplier of your payout; at any moment you can cash out and keep the current multiplier. If you reveal a mine the round ends and the bet is lost.

The risk is in your hands: more mines make each tile more dangerous and the multiplier climbs faster, while fewer mines make it safer and slower. But the game is still chance, because the mine positions are random and set by a random number generator.

Mines is on the Winzap trending list, and the live lobby has a Turbo Mines tile. Winzap's crash games page describes Mines as a game where you cash out before hitting mine bombs.

Rules

  • The grid hides a number of mines chosen at the start; every other tile is safe.
  • Each safe tile revealed raises the multiplier; the multiplier depends on the number of mines and tiles revealed.
  • You can cash out before opening a new tile; if you hit a mine you lose the whole bet.
  • The mine positions are decided before you play by the random number generator.
  • An auto-cashout or auto-pick feature may be available; read the game help.
  • The provider sets the payout table and the return-to-player.

Bets, payouts & house edge

Reveal 1 safe tile (3 mines)about 1.1xdepends on the providerProbability of a safe first tile with 3 mines in 25: 88%.
Reveal 3 safe tiles (3 mines)about 1.45xdepends on the providerProbability of 3 safe tiles in a row: 67%. Fair payout would be 1.49x.
Reveal 10 safe tiles (3 mines)much higherdepends on the providerThe chance of getting there is only about 20% (15 x 14 x 13 / (25 x 24 x 23)).

Payouts, commissions and side bets differ between providers and tables. Always read the rules shown at the table or in the game on Winzap before anything else.

How these numbers are worked out

With 25 tiles and 3 mines, the chance that the first tile is safe is 22/25 = 88%. For three safe tiles in a row it is (22/25) x (21/24) x (20/23) = 66.96%, so a fair payout would be 1 / 0.6696 = 1.49x. A game with a 3% edge pays about 1.45x for that. The figures are examples: the real multipliers come from the provider.

Tips for playing sensibly

Decide in advance how many tiles you will open and cash out at that point.

More mines mean higher multipliers but much less chance of reaching them.

A cash-out target does not change the long-run edge; it changes how often you win.

Never chase a loss with a bigger bet.

Read the RTP in the game information before you play.

Mines FAQ

Can I find the mines with a pattern?

No. Mine positions are generated randomly for each round and there is no pattern to find.

Is cashing out early always best?

It lowers the chance of losing the round but also the payout. The long-run edge stays the same.

Why does the multiplier grow faster with more mines?

Because each safe tile is less likely, so the game pays more for it.
