Overview
Sic Bo is a dice game played with three dice. Players bet on the numbers, totals or combinations that will appear. Big and Small have a house edge of about 2.78%, while specific triples and doubles carry edges of 16% to 19%.
Sic Bo (Chinese for "dice pair") is a fast dice game from China. Three dice are rolled and you bet on what they will show: the total, one number, a pair, or a triple. A grid of bets on the table pays different odds depending on how rare the result is.
There is nothing to decide after the dice land, so every bet is pure chance. The long-shot bets look attractive because of their large payouts, but they are priced so that the house keeps a bigger share on them than on Big or Small.
Winzap lists several Sic Bo tiles in its live casino lobby: Sic Bo, Ultimate Sic Bo and Speed Super Sic Bo. They share the same three-dice idea, but the extra features and paytables differ, so check the paytable of the tile you open.

How to play Sic Bo
- 1Look at the table layout: it shows every bet and what it pays.
- 2Place your chips on one or more bets before the betting window closes.
- 3The dealer (or the machine) shakes and rolls three dice.
- 4The three dice are revealed and the total is added up.
- 5Winning bets are paid at the posted odds; losing bets are cleared.
- 6If all three dice show the same number (a triple), Big and Small lose, except in versions that say otherwise.
Rules
- Three dice are rolled each round, so there are 6 x 6 x 6 = 216 equally likely results.
- Small wins on a total of 4 to 10 and Big wins on 11 to 17. Both lose on any triple (the totals 3 and 18 are never Big or Small).
- A single-number bet pays 1 to 1 if the number shows on one die, 2 to 1 on two dice and 3 to 1 on three dice.
- A specific double (two dice with the same chosen number) is commonly paid 10 to 1, and a specific triple 180 to 1.
- Any triple (any number on all three dice) is commonly paid 30 to 1.
- A two-dice combination (two chosen different numbers) is commonly paid 5 to 1.
- Total bets are paid by how rare the total is, for example 60 to 1 on a total of 4 or 17.
- Payouts and extra features differ by provider and by tile.
Bets, payouts & house edge
| Bet | Pays | House edge | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Big or Small | 1 to 1 | 2.78% | Loses on any triple, which is why the edge is not zero. |
| Single number | 1 to 1, 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 | 7.87% | Pays by how many dice show your number. |
| Two-dice combination | 5 to 1 | 16.67% | Two chosen different numbers both appear. |
| Total of 7 or 14 | 12 to 1 | 9.72% | The best of the total bets. |
| Total of 10 or 11 | 6 to 1 | 12.50% | Common totals, but priced to match. |
| Total of 4 or 17 | 60 to 1 | 15.28% | A rare total with a big payout. |
| Any triple | 30 to 1 | 13.89% | Any number on all three dice. |
| Specific double | 10 to 1 | 18.52% | The highest house edge of the common bets. |
| Specific triple | 180 to 1 | 16.20% | A long shot: 1 in 216. |
Payouts, commissions and side bets differ between providers and tables. Always read the rules shown at the table or in the game on Winzap before anything else.
How these numbers are worked out
There are 216 equally likely rolls. For example, a specific triple wins in 1 of 216 rolls and pays 180 to 1: expected result = (1 x 180 - 215) / 216 = -16.2%. Any triple wins in 6 of 216 rolls at 30 to 1: (6 x 30 - 210) / 216 = -13.89%. Big or Small win 105 of 216 rolls and lose in the other 111 (including 6 triples): (105 - 111) / 216 = -2.78%.
Tips for playing sensibly
If you play, the Big and Small bets have the lowest house edge; they are still negative over time.
The large payouts on triples and doubles are tempting but cost far more per bet.
Spreading chips over many bets does not reduce the overall edge.
Read the paytable of each tile (Sic Bo, Ultimate Sic Bo, Speed Super Sic Bo): extra features change the maths.
Set a time and money limit first; rounds are quick.
Common myths
Myth "A number that has not appeared for a while is due."
Truth The dice have no memory. Each roll is independent.
Myth "Betting on many numbers at once makes me safe."
Truth Each bet keeps its own house edge, so the total expected loss only grows.
